The American actress began her Hollywood career in the 1930s in the stereotyped role of exotic vamps and villain 'femmes fatales'.

In 1934, she is chosen as William Powell's wife for the comic film, The Thin Man: the actress is finally recognised for her acting skills and becomes 'Hollywood's Queen' with her interpretations of the ideal marital partner on screen. During World War II, she abandons her acting career to focus on war effort and will, in 1948, become the first Hollywood celebrity to become a member of the US national Commission for UNESCO. Although she was believed to be cinema's 'perfect wife', Myrna Loy ironically responded 'some perfect wife I am. I've been married four times, divorced four times, have no children, and can't boil an egg.'
