The American actress, Gretchen Young, started acting at the age of three alongside her sisters, Polly Ann and Elizabeth Jane.
As a teen, she changes her name to Loretta, after her favourite doll which gives her a much more exotic persona. A beautiful woman, she is often chosen as blonde bombshells' rivals with whom she contrasts with her sleek looks. Before retiring in the 1960s, she hosts a very popular TV show within which she displays all her moral sense and fashion taste. A devoted catholic, Loretta Young however often adopted contradictory attitudes: eloping and divorcing at 17, having love affairs with married men and falsely adopting the child she had secretly had with Clark Gable. This conflict between her religious beliefs and her love life led critics to nickname her 'Attila the Nun' and an impertinent Marlene Dietrich to say: 'Every time she sins, she builds a church. That's why there are so many Catholic churches in Hollywood.'
