Venue du théâtre, elle remporte le Tony Award de la meilleure comédienne 1956 pour le rôle principal dans The Pounder Heart, adaptation pour la scène d'un roman de Eudora Welty. En 1962, elle est nommée pour l'Oscar de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle pour son interprétation de Mrs. Winemiller dans Été et Fumées (1961) de Peter Glenville, d'après la pièce homonyme de Tennessee Williams.

Una Merkel's physical resemblance to Lillian Gish enabled her to embark on a dramatic career, and her talent kept her firmly at the thick of the productive actors who dominated Hollywood throughout the film industry's fabled years.

A blond with sparkling blue eyes, Merkel so closely resembled Gish in her early years that director D. W. Griffith made her a stand-in in "Way Down East" in 1920 and "The White Rose" in 1923.

The actress, who may best be remembered for the savage saloon fight she had with Marlene Dietrich in "Destry Rides Again" (1939), had studied drama with Tyrone Power's mother in New York. Her first featured film credit was in the long-forgotten "The Fifth Horseman" in 1924. However, she had to return to New York for work after that, uttering one line in "Two by Two" in 1925, which ran two weeks, and another sentence in "The Poor Nut" the same year, which lasted three weeks.

However, she persevered and in 1927 was cast with Helen Hayes in "Coquette," which enjoyed a 22-month Broadway run.

By 1930, she had returned to both Hollywood and Griffith, who cast her as Ann Rutledge, the sweetheart of "Abraham Lincoln," opposite Walter Huston.

She deadpanned, drawled and wisecracked her way through "Broadway Melody of 1936," "Biography of a Bachelor Girl," "Evelyn Prentice," "Born to Dance," "Saratoga" and two dozen more films in the 1930s, capping the decade with "Destry" in 1939.

The grits-thick accent, quick retorts and sarcasm continued into the '40s, as she kept up a pace of secondary roles in secondary films. However, when the phone quit ringing in the 1950s, Merkel opted to return to New York, where she won critical acclaim and the Tony for Eudora Welty's "The Ponder Heart."

In 1959, she was seen on Broadway with Jackie Gleason and Walter Pidgeon in "Take Me Along," a musical adaptation of "Ah, Wilderness" remembered now primarily for its title song.

Her Broadway success evidently convinced film producers that there was more to her than scatterbrained banter. In 1961 she appeared in "The Parent Trap" and as Geraldine Page's bitter mother in the big-screen adaptation of Tennessee Williams' "Summer and Smoke." She did three movies after that: "Summer Magic" (1963), "A Tiger Walks" (1964) and "Spinout," an Elvis Presley vehicle in 1966. After that there were only a scattering of television appearances.

Julie Mitchum née Annette Mitchum le 23 juillet 1914 à Bridgeport (Connecticut), et morte le 21 février 2003 à Sun City (Arizona), est une actrice américaine.

Tout comme ses frères Robert et John, elle est actrice. Son rôle le plus connu étant sans doute celui de Ruth Bridgers dans le film de William Castle : La Nuit de tous les mystères (House on Haunted Hill) (1959), dans lequel elle apparaît aux côtés de Vincent Price. Julie Mitchum est morte à Sun City (Arizona) de la maladie d'Alzheimer.

Miss Dirty Martini, née Linda Marraccini dans le New Jersey aux États-Unis, est une danseuse et actrice américaine de cabaret New burlesque et de cinéma.

Linda Marraccini est née et a grandi dans la région de New York où sa mère est chanteuse d'opéra. Elle a suivi des cours de danse depuis son enfance et est diplômée dans cette discipline de l'Université d'État de New York (SUNY) à Purchase. Elle essaie à partir de 1993 de donner des cours de danse classique à New York mais fait face à des difficultés pour trouver un emploi. Elle décide alors de se produire, sous le nom de scène de Miss Dirty Martini, dans le mouvement de cabaret New burlesque dont elle devient l'une des artistes les plus connues au début des années 2000 et reçoit le titre de Miss Exotic World en 2004, après avoir été finaliste l'année précédente, et avoir reçu le prix Sally-Rand en 2001. Elle travaille ensuite avec Murray Hill pour le spectacle Red Tide Blooming et joue avec Julie Atlas Muz et Penny Arcade dans Bad Reputation et New York Values. Elle collabore également avec Margaret Cho en 2007 dans The Sensuous Woman.

Kitty Hartl, programmatrice du Lieu unique de Nantes la produit en France avec Kitten on the Keys, Mimi Le Meaux, et Roki Roulette en 2004. C'est à cette occasion que l'acteur et réalisateur Mathieu Amalric les découvre et décide d'utiliser leurs numéros et personnages comme la trame central de son film Tournée dont il cherche depuis plusieurs années un élément essentiel pour retranscrire l'univers de la nouvelle L'Envers du music-hall de Colette qui lui a servi de base pour le scénario initial.

Suite au succès de Tournée et au regain d'intérêt pour le New burlesque, elle réalise des séries de spectacles en France et en Europe avec l'ensemble de la troupe du film mais également en solo en Italie où elle s'est produite durant plusieurs jours en novembre 2010 au Teatro Olimpico de Rome. Elle fut également photographiée par Karl Lagerfeld pour la marque Chanel dans V Magazine. Après trois ans de tournée en France avec leur spectacle, la directrice artistique Kitty Hartl fait appel à l'automne 2013 au plasticien français Pierrick Sorin pour y intégrer de nouvelles créations visuelles.

Hans-Heinrich Lammers naît le 27 mai 1879 à Lublinitz en Haute Silésie.

Il fait ses études dans « l’école des princes » de Pless puis étudie le droit à Breslau et Heidelberg. Il effectue son service militaire d’un an puis revient au droit et est assistant à l’université. Il passe son doctorat en 1904 et grimpe les échelons dans la carrière jurudique pour se retrouver en 1912 juge à Beuthen en Haute Silésie. Le 29 avril 1913 il épouse à Gleiwitz Elfriede Tepel (1894-1945) dont il aura deux filles nées en 1914 et 1918. En 1914 il se porte volontaire et sert comme officier de réserve dans le 4è d’infanterie de Silésie. En 1917 ils est grièvement blessé, perd son oeil gauche et est de ce fait muté comme officier administratif auprès du Gouvernement Général Impérial à Varsovie (affaires financières). Fin 1920 il travaille au ministère de l’intérieur et comme spécialiste du droit, il représente l’Etat dans les procès contre les Länder. Mais ses convictions de droite le mettent en porte à faux vis-à-vis des sociaux démocrates au pouvoir et en 1928, à propos d’un artricle qu’il rédige sur la constitution, le ministre social-démocrate Severing le réprimande lourdement.

De dépit il adhère au parti nazi en 1932. Le 30 janvier 1933 Hitler le nomme secrétaire d’état et chef de la chancellerie du Reich. Lammers entre le 29 septembre 1933 dans la SS où il a rang de SS-Oberführer, puis de SS-Brigadeführer (20 avril 1935), SS-Gruppenführer (30 janvier 1938) et SS-Obergruppenführer (20 avril 1940). En 1937 il est promu « Reichsminister (ministre du Reich) et Chef de la chancellerie ». Chaque disposition législative passe par lui. Lammers organise en lien avec les autres « secrétaires » de Hitler (Bormann, Keitel, Meisner) les affaires de l’Etat. Lammers est le représentant type de la bureaucratie du troisième Reich, mais sa position extrêmement bureaucratie devient de plus en plus difficile à tenir devant l’idéologisation grandissante du régime qui créé une forme de société où un groupe de dirigeants contrôlent directement le reste de la population sans la médiation d’un appareil administratif rationnel tel que l’incarne Lammers.

Il se trouve de plus en plus en porte à faux, particulièrement devant Bormann, dont l’influence grandit de plus en plus. Les SS l’arrêtent en avril 1945, car il soutient le remplacement de Hitler par Goering. Peu avant son exécution, il est « sauvé » par les Américains et immédiatement incarcéré. Dans l’effondrement du régime, sa femme et l’une de ses filles se suicident. Les 8 et 9 avril 1946 Lammers témoigne au grand procès de Nuremberg contre les grands criminels. Il est lui-même mis en accusation au procès de la Wilhelmstrasse contre les collaborateurs des divers ministères le 11 avril 1949, pour crimes de guerre et crimes contre l’humanité, entre autres pour participation au massacre des Juifs d’Europe. Il est condamné à 20 ans de prison. Le 16 décembre 1951 cette peine est commuée en 10 ans de prison. Il est libéré en 1954 et meurt le 4 janvier 1962 à Düsseldorf.

Irene Miracle est une actrice, productrice, scénariste et réalisatrice américaine, née le 24 janvier 1954 à Stillwater, dans l'Oklahoma (États-Unis).

Elle est principalement connue pour son rôle de Susan, la petite amie de Billy Hayes, dans Midnight Express d'Alan Parker, pour lequel elle obtiendra le Golden Globe de la révélation féminine de l'année (New Star Of The Year - Actress) en 1979. Patsy Ruth Miller (née le 17 janvier 1904 et morte le 16 juillet 1995) est une actrice américaine.

Après avoir été découverte par l’actrice Alla Nazimova à une fête d’Hollywood, Patsy Ruth Miller eut sa première chance avec un petit rôle dans Camille, aux côtés de Rudolph Valentino. Ses rôles devinrent plus consistants et elle fut même choisie pour être une des WAMPAS Baby Star de 1922. En 1923, elle fut acclamée pour son incarnation d’Esmeralda dans The Hunchback of Notre Dame, dans lequel figurait aussi Lon Chaney, Sr.. Dans la dernière partie de cette décennie des années 1920, elle apparut principalement dans de légères comédies romantiques face à des acteurs tels que Clive Brook et Edward Everett Horton, figurant aux génériques de Broken Hearts of Hollywood (it) (1926), A Hero for a Night (1927), Hot Heels (1928), et The Aviator (1929).

Elle se retira du cinéma en 1931. Elle fit néanmoins une cameo dans un film de 1951, Québec (avec John Barrymore Jr), notant dans son autobiographie qu’elle y avait participé comme à une plaisanterie. Elle sortit de sa retraite en 1978 pour faire le film Mother. Elle obtint plus tard dune reconnaissance en tant qu’écrivain, gagnant pour ses nouvelles trois O. Henry Awards, écrivant un roman, des pièces et des scénarios radiophoniques. Elle se produisit aussi pendant une brève période à Broadway.

Elle fut mariée trois fois et connut deux divorces. Son premier mari fut le réalisateur Tay Garnett et le second le scénariste John Lee Mahin. Quant au troisième, l’homme d’affaires E.S. Deans, il mourut en 1986. Les fréquentes nouvelles concernant sa vie amoureuse lui valurent le surnom de fille la plus engagée d’Hollywood. Patsy Ruth Miller mourut chez elle en 1995 à Palm Desert (Californie) à l’âge de 91 ans.

Après des débuts au théâtre dans son pays natal, Lilian Bond s'installe vers la fin des années 1920 aux États-Unis. Elle joue à Broadway (New York) entre 1928 et 1941, dans quatre pièces, trois comédies musicales et une revue (aux côtés de Louise Brooks notamment). Au cinéma, elle tourne son premier film américain en 1929. En tout, elle apparaît dans quarante-huit films (tous américains, sauf un britannique en 1934), le dernier en 1955. En particulier, elle interprète Lillie Langtry dans Le Cavalier du désert, en 1940. À la télévision, Lilian Bond participe à trois séries, en 1954, 1955 et 1958, année où elle se retire définitivement. Elle est au nombre des quinze jeunes actrices (dont Ginger Rogers et Gloria Stuart) recevant en 1932 le prix WAMPAS Baby Stars.
